The quality of Max's Oyster Bar is consistent and great. The wait staff is friendly and funny, the dining room is social and warm, and the menu is well designed with quality dishes that remain alongside the changing dinner specials. This time, we ordered the Chilean sea bass and it was a standout for sure--it was cooked perfectly with a crisp outside and fatty delicious taste on the inside. The red curry paired well with the sea bass, showcasing the thoughtful dish design by the chef.

Naomi B. Was an amazing server. Without question she swapped out items due to our lack of interest or dislike. She found us an answer for any question we had and considering how expansive the menu was, that was very appreciated! Beyond amazing service.... The raw oysters were outstanding! Please continue staying with local oysters from the north east. Personally, the tasting notes on the oyster raw menu were impeccable!!!

We had an amazing dinner tonight. Started with the clam chowder, lobster pasta and a lobster roll finish with crème brûlée for dessert and our waitress Jaden did a phenomenal job!!! Great ambience right on Farmington ave. we had an amazing evening. Next time we come back to visit from AR we will definitely be back!

We ventured into West Hartford this evening to have dinner at Max's oyster bar. We hadn't been there in quite a while so we thought we would give it a try again. We started with some clam chowder that was just terrific, full of potatoes, onions, and clams, and just the perfect thickness. My wife had never had ceviche before, so we tried the bay scallops ceviche, which I thought was fantastic, but the wife was a little less enthusiastic. Tangy with lime combined with chopped scallops, red onion and veggies it was great if you're a ceviche fan. She had the Norwegian salmon. It was beautifully prepared and if you enjoy salmon, it was right on point. I had the fried fisherman's platter and compared it with my favorite place to go for such a dish which is of course Lenny and Joe's. The fried fisherman's platter came with two pieces of whitefish, three large shrimp and three scallops with fries. The scallops did not appear to be deep-fried, but breaded and lightly fried while the whitefish and shrimp were beautifully fried with a light coating. Overall, the dish was very good. Our server this evening was excellent, stopping by on occasion, but never intrusive and she was a delight who earned a very good tip for her excellent service. Max's Oyster Bar continues to serve high-quality seafood in a lovely atmosphere. We sat outside this evening and enjoyed what was a magnificent late summer evening. Highly recommend

We were lucky enough to go on a Monday. $1.00 blue point oysters were on the menu, very delicious. The lobster bake was fabulous. My husband loved his lobster pasta.

It was a beautiful evening to sit outside and enjoy our meal at Max's. We were visiting the area & my son was craving NE clam chowder. It was as he loves it, thick with plenty of clams. As his main entree he ordered the paella for the first time. It was a perfect assortment of seafood. Even a teenage boy couldn't finish the huge plate. I was so excited to see the soft shelled crabs was on special. It was fantastic, do not pass it up if it is still available! If we are in the area, a definite return visit.

I've been wanting to try the max oyster bar for some time and had the chance to do so with several colleagues from work. I started with a basil hayden manhattan, it was very good, they definitely use a good vermouth here. A couple pieces of bread and crackers came out with a seasoned and olive oiled butter. It was good, not exceptional. I ordered the everything cracker crusted cod which came atop miso glazed vegetables with a pepper sauce. I didn't get the everything part of the cracker crust, but the crust was a great textural element and the fish was cooked perfectly. The vegetables were artichokes, baby carrots, and asparagus. I was looking for a light meal and this definitely fit the bill, I enjoyed it very much. It's not an inexpensive restaurant (~$300 for 3 people with tip). I felt that it was worth the $$ spent.

I came here for date night and service was great right when we walked. Food and drinks were great as well My first time here and can't wait to go back

I was in CT for the first time for a quick work trip. My manager asked one of the staff at our hotel for some dining suggestions and this was one of the suggestions so we decided to check it out and I'm glad we did! There is street parking all around, but you may have to walk depending on how busy the area and other businesses are. We were able to find a park right across the street and around the corner. We arrived a little early for our reservation, but were able to be sat then. The inside is very nice! The lighting was calm and inviting and I could tell this was a popular restaurant. It was busy, but not annoyingly crowded. We were greeted promptly and the staff was friendly and attentive. We started with drinks. The cocktails change periodically, so be sure to check the current list when you arrive or online before you go. I ordered a glass of Rosé and it was good. After ordering our entrees, the bread came. It was really good. I loved the flavors! For my entree I ordered the Herb Cracker Crusted Cod and it was DELICIOUS! I ate the entire plate. The fish was cooked perfectly and the Brussels were delicious! The flavors all complimented each other well. My manager and co-worker ordered the Paella and Hot Lobster Roll and they were both pleased! They ordered Espresso and tea for after dinner, but I don't drink either so I ordered the Raspberry Sorbet and OMG so good! Flavorful and light! Definitely recommend if you are in the area and if I return to this part of CT I would return to Max's!

Recently went to Max's on a Friday night for a small intimate birthday group celebration. There's a small room in the back that we used that was perfect for an Eat, drink and mingle type of night and celebration. Service was excellent! We had a few apps through out the night such as sliders, rossitto balls, raw bar tower, steak and cheese and more .. it was perfect! Would love to go back for happy hour . Everything is delicious! If you love seafood this is the place for you.
